Hello, I am a new Katana owner in NSW Australia, only had it a couple of weeks and I love it, I am 68 and have had about a dozen Suzuki's in my life but never a Katana.
I have issue with my speedo, its reading fast, when doing 100kph it reads 112kph, strangle enough it has what appears to be large front tyre, its a 120x80x16, even if it is a bigger diameter that should make the speedo more accurate.
Any Ideas what it may be ???
Regards
Kevin

Re: 85 750 Speedo error
I find that speedo's are upto 10% fast anyway. Years ago I did a police safe rider course and the policeman we were following said that when on the dual carriageway our speedo's would be around 77mph but his was calibrated and would be 70mph. He was correct. Now we have GPS I have tested car and others bikes and most are 8-10% when compared to the GPS for 70mph. My guess is that this is done on purpose to make us drive slower than we think!
I guess that your bigger tyre should bring it into line but I guess that is just the way it reads. They are 35 years old now. I get a bit of a oscillation in mine so you have to average that out as well.

Thanks boys, yeah its out a bit to much to be normal, I will check tyre dia, cable etc, maybe I could put on a larger dia tyre on it.
but that might cause handling issues, rumour has it that Suzuki went to a larger wheel dia it later bikes because the Katana 16" made them handle bad.
Any comments there, did all Katana's have 16"??

Re: 85 750 Speedo error
I have been on me jollies so just got to this .
Firstly is your 750 a pop up. Or less likely a jap import S2 Which is like the proper Kat with later running gear.
All Suzuki from 83 to 87 received 16" wheels front.
I ask after model because the pop up speedo drive at the wheel is a different cable fitment to others which isn't a real issue but when a wheel is tightened up wrong the tabs get damaged and are replaced with another identical looking item ......if it comes from an earlier model with an 19 " wheel it will look the same with the appropriate cable it will look the same ......but over read by a bit.
As for oversize tyres the minimal addition would add up to 10+ kph. But the Aussie market pop up had larger width tyres as standard . Oh and 18 " rear.
