It's all about the timing

Ok....so I brought the bike out of the garage for a spruce up before the summer, as the weather has been looking more promising...
I decided to put some new plugs in, change the oil and check the timing ( not done that bit since I don't know when).
Now, here's the conundrum, the strobe light shows that the timing is about 4 degrees or so retarded, but the mounting plate doesn't have any more movement to adjust for this....any one else seen this problem??
Was considering splitting the mounting holes round some more, but the bike runs absolutely fine, and start.s on the button, even after 4 months inactivity.
Any advice or thoughts??
Thanks Bob
