Everlasting Race Kat Project
Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Interesting stuff there Pedda with the crank case and liner mods, will be interesting to find out how it works compared to an unmodded similar spec engine ?.
V&h cams must be quite expensive, surely a reprofile of the std cams would be as good ? also you don't need an ignition advancer, just slot the ignition plate and play about with the advance til your happy with it

Yeah - we just have to talk somebody into building a similar spec engine, eh... But I rely on the words of Ingo, who does these mods very often. He can't tell in exact horsepower output, though.arnica2612 wrote:Interesting stuff there Pedda with the crank case and liner mods, will be interesting to find out how it works compared to an unmodded similar spec engine ?.
Ah - just notice, I was wrong when I said V&H, it's Web Cams, but that's not a big difference in prices, I guess. Reprofiling seems a good option. Never thought of that. Can't tell prices, obviously. Next difficulty - how to get hold of the exact profiles. At least you must know somebody who borrows you his cams for a pattern. I guess the manufacturers like Yoshimura, V&H, Web, Kent and others will be a bit incommunicative.arnica2612 wrote:V&h cams must be quite expensive, surely a reprofile of the std cams would be as good ?
Yes, but that advancer just came across...arnica2612 wrote:also you don't need an ignition advancer, just slot the ignition plate and play about with the advance til your happy with it
Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
I'm sure Kent cams do reprofiling, they should have profiles for efe engines, mine has kent cams that were done 20 odd years ago but they should still do them, it's worth emailing them.

Hmh - good hint. I will keep that in mind for that stocker I still got on the shelf.

Can't wait until it's ready. I have some RS 36 Miks on the shelf as well. I think I'll get them set up also, just for a comparison of different torque and hp characteristics.scott wrote:I finished an almost identical engine build on my kat's EFE motor late last summer. I'm running RS 36s.
You are gonna love it Pedda.
Gonna see my mate next week - hope he has good news for me...

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Wife is to the movies this evening. So I have a bit spare time to make a little progress on the bike.
I made up my mind what to do to the frame, finally. I won't paint or powder coat it but give it a nickel plating. That means I have to do all the bracing I had in mind for future winters' work.
Did it the old fashion way: first made a template from a card board, then cut it from a metal sheet. Here's the results:
To make it fit perfectly I had to bend it a bit:
Next one is a gusset for the front part of the frame:
Next area will be here:
Not decided yet whether I'll take a tubular bracket or something more sophisticated...

Do you have any dyno sheets for your engine you could post here?

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
As I'm still waiting for crucial things to get done by my mate, I started to kill some time with things which had to be done anyway.
First thing is fixing the bodywork. Starting point is a bent front fairing bracket. The pics show in which way it is "out of hours", as we used to call that in my coal mining days. (Means something like: far from direction to 12 on the clock face, if that makes any sense...)
First pic shows how I took alignment:
Second pic is just the other way round.
Next one with fairing with a water level on top.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
After some hours of bending the antlers I had a good result.
This odd clearance was only a minor problem.
