Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Before the head went on I had to to the things everybody has to do when tinkering on old bikes: New thread here and there...
After head porting, which was done by a bloke from the Oldskoolsuzuki forum names Speedy Steve Racer, I had to get the manifolds matching to the intakes.
Steve btw. is dragracing EFE engines for more than 20 years now and sort of competent in tuning these lumps.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Next special tool is for positioning the valve retainers.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
For the step to follow, imagine me taking a pic with my camera between my teeth, pressing that little valve doddle against the valve springs.
Retainers went on, picture failed.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
So at this point it was about time to think about the chassis. I found a cheap and ugly 750 Kat with some weird aftermarket fairing.

Next step:
Due to limited space in my workshop I had to make me a rolling work bench. That was also the point to call my mates to have some beer again. The crates were needed, basically...

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Plans for the chassis so far:
750 SRAD forks (made by HH Racetech)
750 SRAD Öhlins mono shock (high adjustable, model S46PR1C2LS)
750 SRAD wheels
Gixxer 1100 L (or M, who knows...) swinger
Strengthen the chassis by factoring the engine as a bearing component in the frame by using custom engine mounts rather than too much bracing the frame.
Lift up the engine 10 mm to gain some ground clearance
Most of the running gear I got from a race SRAD I butchered just for that purpose. Sold the rest so I got some dosh back at least...
Here's some of the goodies...
My mate with the milling and drilling job has the yokes on the workbench at the moment. The stem of the SRAD forks must be customized to fit the steering head of the frame. Very useful job he has - unfortunately he's quite busy and it always takes him at least one or 5 month to get things done for me. But at no costs, so.....
Everlasting project for this reason, too.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
The swinger had to be modified (you already know by whom...) to take the thicker axle of the SRAD.
This is how it looked originally - with the SRAD adjuster on top.
After:

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
When I did a mock up I found out that the SRAD rear hub is too wide for the swinger. Good I know the telephone # of my bud by heart... So this is what I'm waiting for at the moment (since 3 months), together with the yokes and some engine mounts.
The sprocket carrier will be shaved at the relevant areas to gain a few millimeters.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
For checking out the chain alignment I threw in the casings with the snapped bearing support.
I love mock-ups.

Re: Everlasting Race Kat Project
Figuring out the rear shock position
By using a set of different dog bones I ended up here:
The mounting brackets are still not welded onto the frame at the very moment. Simple reason: I do not trust my own welding skills when working on safety relevant things, so I have to wait for my mate to come around with the engine mounts, then take the frame to another mate who's a brilliant welder and get it done there.
Everlasting project - ya know...
