Re: Cold compresion testing? 650z
I eventually rechecked the compression -with the throttle open and plugs out as suggested. this didn't improve results 60's all-round. Hey ho, at least they're all similar! let the dismantling begin.

Re: 1980 650gt sump pan compatability
Correct John , model with oil cooler needs to be GS650 GZ or GZ , the GT is different with the oil way blanked off and will pressurise the filter housing causing it to blow off, Don't ask! I went and ordered the GT pan last night, could be interesting to see if the oil way can be reinstated....

Re: 1980 650gt sump pan compatability
partly due to not having a helicoil kit at the moment and the ebay item is reasonably priced... plus advice to the effect that replacement would be preferable..sparki wrote:you stripped the drain plug? why not just repair it?

Not very high :( You mean 3 not 4 right ? Were the carbs on? I only recently found out that your supposed to have the throttle open   Pete good point! the silver lining being any residual petrol is sucked out of the carbs..and yes it was pot 3 that was deflating.. Cold compresion testing? 650z
I can only assume compression test figures of 90-90-60-90 psi on the four pots is not good news and points to a problem on pot four. What would the normal 'cold' figures be. Apologies if this is fixtures on another thread!

As Busby said 'It's good to talk'...high on my wish list is a useable engine am...
