Exhaust for 550
Re: Exhaust for 550
Hi Tom.
Welcome to the Club. Howabout some pics?
I had a motad on mine. Popular exhaust but bit boring like you say. When i had my first one back in the long and distant past, it had a nice Marshall on it Lot nicer and sounded great.
Marvin do this one.......

Re: Exhaust for 550
I've a Motad on my 650. If you get a long drill bit in the biggest diameter that will fit in the end of the exhaust and drill through ,you get a much deeper growl from it.

If so cut the end can part off where you can see the weld under the bike at the 4 into 1 part, have a look on eblag at a place called pro race do lots of end cans and they sound very well, have 2 bikes with pro race cans, just look unber end can for say gsxr and you will come across then.
Re: Exhaust for 550
Hi Guys,
Thanks for letting me join - an ‘81 Kat 650 owner (Jap import)
I’ve jumped on this old thread as I need some exhaust help.
My 650 is pretty standard looking apart from a scruffy Motad 4-1 which I would dearly love to change. However, with what can I replace it?
Can the “hive” suggest anything that is available today in the UK?
Failing that, the Motad needs some new collets and a re-spray.
I’ll do it in satin black as the chrome is so bad, but I’d really rather have something new.
If someone has a complete OEM system lurking somewhere then I will prostrate myself in front of you!
Help!!!

Hi Pete,
No I’m here as a proper member. Even if the 650 isn’t a keeper, I feel another 1000/1100 in my future!
These forums are a great resource, why just use them as a market place.
I saw the link to the Marving but it doesn’t show the 650 as an option.
I’ve already bought a complete 550 OEM system that I discovered doesn’t fit the 650 so that will be sold again. Shame as the r/h side was new old stock and the rest was pretty good bar a few small dents.
Photo attached - ignore the exhaust - this was with part of the 550 system offered up for a fit.......
