550 restored

Post by jmac » Fri Jun 01, 2018 11:13 pm

My colleague has restored a 550 from the ground up. He has stripped and rebuilt everything, and now he wants to e-bay it. Q1 is anybody interested. Q2 could anybody put a value on such a machine.
Fossie is familiar with the bike and may be able to answer any questions.

'Tis indeed well sorted from what it was when you collected it ....a life time ago eh?
Andy knows as well as anyone that valuation of a classic may not meet the actual costs outlaid. That said he did all the work himself with your help eh John.... 8-)

At this moment there is a nice 550 on eBay for £2995 , in all honesty the seller will forever struggle at that unless the one person who really wants that bike sees it. :?
So this is where worth and value differ.

Valuation for a GS 550 MX ( Katana) 1982-4.
Basket case ....spares or repairs ... £150- £350

Complete bike Ready to restore £400-£650.

"Restored" bike Now this is where the difficultly lays
New parts , refurbed parts , original or period.
It is interpretation. £750- £1500

Concours. ( No bike should ever have to suffer this fate
being trailered to shows just to been shown
Suffering forever to be critiqued .). £1995 + :o
