OEM shock absorbers

Post by fossie » Sun Jul 23, 2023 10:09 am

Many times it is asked if the Original shocks can be rebuilt , the answer is usually no as they are welded top.
However :
I took a pair apart today just to save the springs really ..
In all honesty they were quite ahead of their time,

The damper rod is hollow to allow oil to pass up and the rebound adjuster has a rod that passes through held in position by ball bearings and springs. A nylon cog moves the inner body to the correct position .
Really the only thing to hinder a rebuild is knowing he oil capacity and grade .

Yes, wish my Katana still had the OEM ones since they matched the stying on the bike well.
Maybe trial and error with the oil to see what works.
