Wanted for a German member. 250 tank?

Post by fossie » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:36 am

Heinz in Germany went into his garage a few weeks ago, thought he could smell petrol .....on closer inspection there was a pool around his 250.... :?
The tank was rotten and had failed. It has been repaired and sealed before...a few times to be honest.
We searched yahoo Japan and found a few. But they won't post.....I tried to contact Drew but no response....last I heard he was in hospital.

So there we have it we need a tank and carbs for a 250 SSN. Or someone who has contact with someone in Japan who will arrange postage to my address if it is easier.

For info this was the 250 we built at the Stafford show some years ago from bits. :)

One off the repairs was extreme ....done in Japan we believe

The sealer in the tank had just crumbled

Been that long since been on here I almost forgot my password.

Cheers for the heads up Sparki.

The only thing extreme about that repair is how extremely bad it is.

Has it gone on that patch or elsewhere?

If you can get the tank to me I should be able to sort it

No it really can't be repaired, the repair on the bottom was because the sides were caved in from an accident. Consequently it was sealed with a petrol tank sealant, this reacted with newer petrol and it melted, it was cleaned out as much as possible and a new sealer installed, the tank then rusted at a low point on the seam and the both sealers reacted and turned to a jellified substance.

The tank is on a bike in Germany were Heinz is a welder fabricator for Volkswagen group , he reckons it BLR , ( beyond local repair.)
But if you wish to have ago Harris it can be arranged I'm sure.

I've bought stuff from Japan Auction site before.
I have a link on my laptop that will allow bidding through a 3rd party. I was a bit skeptical at first but had no problems.

The down side is shipping and taxes  You are liable to have your leg well and truly lifted by HMRC and the Bandits that act as their import agents.

But if you are prepared to wait until next Wednesday/Thursday I can either ping the link over with the info required to register as a new user, or I could possibly buy/import and pass it on at cost.

The main problem is that I am in the middle of the North Sea and my laptop is in Sunny North Norfolk

Cheers kryten, I don't own a laptop or smartphone or actually understand any of his linking stuff.
There's is no rush , in all honesty Heinz maybe coming to the wusseykat ....though unlikely as it is short notice and I think he is working in quatar or Saudi about then, so he may be coming in November for a long weekend. :?
So when you are able if you are is fine . :D

Ok so found a 400 tank here in UK .. Made an offer......a 400 one is better than no tank surely! ;)
If I remember correctly the 400 fits fine but the panel lug mounts are a touch different.....but this can be addressed .....or Am I talking bollix? :?

If you have sourced a new one for him. Get him to send the old one over to me. Can have a look see what I can do. If it's already knackered me having a look at it won't do any harm

You're not talking 'bollix' Fossie, for some unexplained reason the 400 Kat side panels fit the 250 tank but the 250 Kat side panels need fettling to fit the 400 tank. :?:
