Yes the tap should be so close , there is basically only 1 tap , just different take off points on the rear for vacuums and fuel .
They all stick from time to time when not used for a while ....just use a pair of pliers to grip the lever and it will move easily and get easier.
It has only had v power in it while in my tenures .... ;)

I would like to say this thread needs to be renamed now .......
Good luck .....Christ ..you'll need it! Patience is a virtue just remember that

Most of the starting issues with 400 and 250 tend to be from the little brass pipe out side the carbs breaking at the join and letting air in. I'm not sur this is the case but a pointer. :?

Christ. Something went wrong on the design front there. I guess I am used to no tap (Buell) or a fully manual tap (old two-strokes).
I suppose I just have to get used to leaving it on and trusting the diaphragm works.
Fossie - the brass pipe has been epoxied by the look of it.

It was like that the first time I owned it all those years ago , it may have been redone since, it was running about 20 months ago ish..., but due to my missus's shift pattern changes it wasn't going to be needed so it was left under a cover in the garage ....this is fatal with these water cooled GSXR engined Kats. The carbs have been off and on more and more times So this pipe could have been dislodged .
A 250 Kat that went to Germany suffered starting issues and it was found valves had closed up or stuck ..the tolerances in everything is so small, From carb jet sizes to valve clearances .
Have you followed this in the project section ? :?

When you say super unleaded, I normally use Shell V Power, is that what you use?
Also, should the fuel tap be so close to the tank?

Shell V Power should be fine as it is the same octane rating as other super unleaded fuels, I use Esso supreme in my bike partly because the petrol station is near me but also in the South of England the Esso petrol is ethanol free, my fuel tap (or petcock, ooh err) is further away from the tank than yours but because photofucket got greedy I can't upload a picture of it, it is a bit weird removing the fuel pipe when the tap says 'on' but because the carbs work on a vacuum from the engine it only fuels when the engine is turning over.

I contacted Esso with my Lancashire postcode and asked where my nearest filling station with ethanol-free was. The helpful reply - no ethanol-free in the Northwest.

Tinykat has a wiring problem. I have tried to open the forum workshop manual, but the damn computer says there is a problem. Can anyone with some tech knowledge help me get a wiring diagram?

Here is the source TIF files I used:

Here is a GSF400 Bandit wiring diagram as well as similar and can help in working out what bits are what on the Japanese 250 one!

Hope that helps - I have just got a X7 so might be contacting you for advice at some point (and even parts!)

Cheers

Thanks so much UB.

My advice re X7s is get what parts you can now. Pay any price you have to!

Let me know if you need any help, I am just on with rebuilding my Swedish X7 now.

Luckily Greta the X7 is mostly complete
It's faster to break than to repair.

Oh yes, all the important bits are there :-)

Lex named my X7 Greta, but sounds like that would be a good name for yours as well since it came from Sweden! Mine comes from Holland thanks to Lex :-)
