Re: Fossies 250 Kat
so.........................
the throttles would open fully, but wouldn't return once there.
Perhaps that was asking too much of this "return" spring...........
now sorted with the fitment of the correct spring.
Then the top coolant hose split. Replaced that.
Now the genny cover gasket is leaking.
Little bugger's putting up a fight

Re: Fossies 250 Kat
them carbs had a full set of o rings in them and literally a half day in the fizzy bath. i hate these bloody things.
Re: Fossies 250 Kat
Stick with it, I've owned mine over 6 years now and after initial carb / fuelling problems (worst one was a hairline split in the vacuum pipe that couldn't be seen, just sorted by trial and error) but there's no substitute for the first time you hit over 15000 rpm, it sounds like one of Mike Hailwoods racing 250s from the 1960's P.s seems that this bikes already had the viton o-rings fitted in the carbs which is a great idea, and when you do get it up and running use super unleaded fuel only, it seems to make a big difference

Re: Fossies 250 Kat
I am going to go through all the hoses, just in case.
First job is to get the starter cable mechanism back on and working.
When you say super unleaded, I normally use Shell V Power, is that what you use?
Also, should the fuel tap be so close to the tank?

The lever is jammed and I don't want to force it, so I will probably have to get a new tap anyway.

Re: Fossies 250 Kat
The tap looks the same as the one on my 1,000. That is also very close to the tank and difficult to get off reserve with thick winter gloves on. To get around this problem I try to fill up before going onto reserve.
It also gets quite tight once in a while, but it's easy to take apart, clean up and put back together. I use a very thin smear of silicone grease on the tapered central part. This seems to keep it free for a while, until it needs doing again: perhaps once a year. I don't think the silicone contaminates the petrol.

Nothing screams poor workmanship quite like wrinkles in your duct tape.
