Cdi units/igniters

Post by tigcraft » Sat Oct 28, 2023 6:54 pm

Mentioned it earlier on a few platforms, I’m short of one for my 250. There’s a few new copies on eBay for peanuts (less than £20) for bandit 250s and 400s and a few more but apparently don’t fit the 250ssm which I thought it would.I asked a eBay seller who just happened to be in the far east although claims uk and said it’s a blank No!! Unfortunately I can’t compare as mine was missing when bike bought.
In reality will the bandit ones fit or has anyone got a link for a new one?

Think JohnD went through it on this thread:

Hi tigcraft.
I can only speak for the 400, noticed some differences in the 250 engine that might or might not have an effect.
But.... There is a comonly available Chinese CDI type CDI - 11, Amazon as well as E Bay have them, circa £60- 80.
Do NOT get the £20 unit! Talk about cheaply made.....
The CDI-11 unit is very well made, better than the original Suzuki unit.... and newer!
On the 400, I had to source the timing rotor from the Bandit 400 to match, this is where I am not sure of your timing rotor type, photo might be of help.
Then, it is just a case of reversing the pick up coil leads.
(To my surprise) I have covered nearly a thousand miles this year, been caught in heavy rain, ran it on one of those broiling Sundays this summer, never a whimper.
Cheers

Thank you both for that info. I’ll digest it all in the following week.

These are the same make as we have tried for the 400 and they work (link for the 250 version):

As a tip sometimes when searching use the model number GJ76A or GJ76 might do.

Thank you for that and I’ll probably buy from there. I did speak to an eBay seller and gave him a GK76A ref instead of GJ purely by accident to which he said it’s suitable until I sent him the correct code then he mentioned it isn’t suitable. There must be something not right about the variation.

That CDI is exactly like the one I sourced. Good build quality and no failing caps like a second hand one will have.... If it is compatible with the Kats rotor and pickup wiring you are good to go. If not... its a fairly cheap and easy conversion. The E Bay units are around £60 but come with my earlier caveats.

Ordered at last from aliexpress for the correct one via link. See how long it takes to appearance. I’m surprised there wasn’t a single one for that model as it had everything

I just bought some tat for my BMW from Aliexpress the other month. Less than three weeks to come, taxes paid upfront, fully tracked. £30 less than the 'UK' seller on ebay.
