Side Stand: Will Not Stay Down / Flicks Up

I have had somewhat of a problem with the sidestand since I got the bike with the side stand not staying down (about 50%) of the time. This has lead to me nearly dropping the bike a couple of times....not good!

So I took it apart and nothing seems excessively worn or out of place. On reassembly with a little grease it is now a consistent (100%) problem!

A little video

I have tried the spring in a number of orientations with no change in behaviour.

I assume that there is something wrong with the geometry of the stand? It is that the 'stop' is not at the right angle i.e. the stand doesn't rotate far enough forward to go 'over centre'

Anyone able to provide a photo of a working stand to show the angles etc? I'd like a little guidance before I start attacking the area with a file :D

TIA

It's a German import isn't it?
Then stop trying to stop it! :o
It won't ....its part of the German TUV test, the stand MUST flip up when wieght us removed to remove the chance of you riding away with it down and having an accident!! A simple warning light, a nodduuale of rubber on the stand as per most place would've surficed....
2 of mine are like it , a weaker Spring helps but can leave the stand floppy I don't mind ....but I suspect you will. You get a sticker made up in the form of the official looking decal. "Danger suicide stand fitted."
Personally I just adapt my dismount method to keep the left leg forward behind the stand until the bike is on it. :(

In the 90's many Ducati's ended up on their side due to this legislation and they tried making 1 EU model to save costs ...but make a fortune in replacement indicator/ panels :)

You could relocate the pin. I did that on a Kat which had it like non German frames.

Fossie, pedda, thanks for the input. It's a pain and I would like to change it if possible.

Anyone got or could take a photo of the pin location on an non German bike.

Thanks

Have a look into my thread 'Everlasting race kat project'. On page 7 you'll find what you are looking for.

Yup useful piccie there, I now need to talk nicely, at a safe distance, to my neighbour as he is a welder!

Still need to talk to the welder but now ready, after half an hour in the garage with an 8mm bolt, a drill, an angle grinder and a couple of files :D
