Bikeazoids Bday and a Bandit

OK so you may or may not know, I have been taking my Katana apart getting her down to the frame for my own remodel, going through old posts here on builds getting ideas and knowledge. I'm going to do the Bandit rear end, 93ish GSXR front end, flat slides and new shocks and the like, so I'm taking my time.

I was looking for the GSXR front and Bandit rear and found a complete Bandit (year 2000) for 1,000 dollars or it seems to be 740 Pounds. It seemed like a great deal, but my wife was complaining about the price. Mind you we do very well, no car payments and I don't golf, do meds or take with strippers, all the things that seem to cost my mates tons of money, so 1,000 smackers seems super reasonable, but it was weighting on her.

The Bandit seller finally came back and said he was coming back on Jan 3rd and I could see the bike on the 4th.... or on the day of my birthday. I told Wifie she could get me the bike for my Birthday. For her birthday, I let her do a light remodel in our living room, cost 1,500 bucks.

I'm not one who cares about Birthdays, being on Jan 4th, everyone is broke and hung over so it never mattered, in fact last year was my 50th and I spent it in the hospital watching my wife's brother die from Covid. The only acknowledgement was when my father in law looked over at me in the hospital room (ICU) and said, "hey Dan, happy 50th"

I just texted my wife, this Bandit can be my 50th, (and 51st) birthday present. Still waiting on the response.

Okay, so you have a plan and we will have a new build thread.

I think you deserve it. Compared to a lot of hobbies, messing with bikes is pretty good value.

When we go to a rugby game it's £250 by the time you factor in tickets, travel, hotel, drinks and meals.

Good call. I used to do about 4 track days a year and that would be about the same, gas, hotel, drinks and new tyres every 3rd trip. I gave that up years ago. Although I do plan to get my Kat out on the track one day.

why not go the whole hog and fit the bandit engine? if its a 1200,it will fit and give you a bhp boost of about 30 bhp, with a decent set of carbs and pipe and a few tweaks, the 1200 bandit engine can be a 150bhp motor, no slouch in a kat frame.

I think I'm going to do that, do I use the whole wiring harness and fuse box from the Bandit?

JohnR, do you have a link to get the motormounts I'll need for the new motor?

Here you go.

I did not take those drawings though. I took the stock katana rear upper mounts and measured the rest from there.

Using the whole Bandit electrics incl. ignition switch and speedo is the easiest way to go. But Kat speedo is nicer and of course you can crimp that one to the loom. and if you use kat ignition switch you will have to mold a diode into the loom. Some 20 years ago I did that. So don't ask me where exactly that diode has to go.

The B12 engine is lighter than GSX.
