Well at full length it's 16m. At its thickest part which is the end you hold it's about 2.5". Any thicker and you'd never be able to hold it.

I remember watching a documentary on the tele about that, some young kid on the beach with his Mum.....
Really lucky he'd had some breakfast that morning
