My new Katana
Hi All,
This is my new GSX-S1000SRMQ0 Katana that I have had for 6 weeks now and love it. Sooooo much better than the 2 x GSX-S1000F's that I had before and no juddering!! I am very happy with this bike as it is my second Katana; my first was a GS650-G in around 1983/4. Sadly no pictures of that bike...

Re: My new Katana
How’s it sound with the Skorpion end can?
What’s the real life usage distance on a tank of fuel?
I must admit I’m very tempted by the new Kat. Looks so much better in real life.

Re: My new Katana
HI DDFP, question, why is much better than the GSX-S1000F? I thought they were very similar?
I haven't ridden either but I took a K5 GSXR for a few laps around So Cal's fastest race track and fell in love with the motor.

Re: My new Katana
In answer to the questions asked:
1) Scorpion end can: better than standard, however I didn't do a decat, so its not too loud and getting the attention of the boys and girls in blue. Still has the baffle in and that is baffling me now I come to think of it...
2) Real life (not quite run in yet - 800 miles) is around 100 miles tank range; although I have had less when I gave it the Heinz 57 one tank. The tank is false (lovely plastic moulding that looks like a tanke but the real tank is black and goes back under the seat) and I had to take if off to fit the quickshifter - the tank is huge, just not very deep!
3) The Katana is based on and uses, many of the GSX-S1000 parts and I am sad enough to have created a parts list for the bike so have been through the online parts lists (never reliable). Different cams, throttle bodies, air box (it has a wonderful intake roar) and some engine internals spring to mind. However both of my previous GSX's didn't have the new throttle bodies (MY15 and MY17) nor updated throttle twist grip cam, so were very jerky, especially at 50-60MPH.
3) Of course their not Ohlin shocks (who can afford those beauties) however it does look good with those gel decals! The front is firm enough for me so I won't be changing the front forks or adding cartridge internals. The rear shock though is very differerent as it is no good for a fat bastard like me; I will have to have a word with Dave at Hagon and get a rear shock built for my excessive weight.

Re: My new Katana
That kinda sucks having a plastic tank, I guess that's just the way things are going.
I had an R1, 2014, it had a plastic tank, or most of it, and I never got over not being able to use a magnetic tank bag on it.

Re: My new Katana
The 100 miles is until the fuel light illuminates. However I have noted that the fuel gauge is not very accurate; i.e. it goes from 50 miles to empty to 35miles to empty in about 5 miles, so once I get to 100 miles I am looking for a garage as I don't want to push this bike around here.
I have heard people say that you can get 120 safely, however if you give the motor a good work out, I would expect the mileage to be more like 80 and look for a garage. Then again, it is 150BHP, so not a surprise...
The actual black fuel tank is an odd shape so I am not surprised at the non-linear gauge response. It is, however, a really great bike and this one stays with me until the ambulance takes me off to the old peoples how kicking and screaming!
