thing to note.
footman james cover (and i assume most others) will only spend up to the value of the bike for recovery/repatriation so if its a "classic" (read old) bike make sure you have an agreed value on it

Tis true the euro cover is repair costs , they take it to a local repairer where it can wait 'till it is fixed , BUT they will get you home with your kit even if this means hire car, taxi , plane, ferry etc.....

If you require definite recovery of you bike home , you will need to get specific cover from AA OR RAC, such like.. Though they will try to get it fixed in that country , this is why the 15 year old rule is employed..

That said when our last Taliban bus needed help in France 1 year, footman James arranged collection to toyota dealer, taxi back, taxi there next day to collect it, they were willing to get hire cars , flights etc what it took to get the people home. Can't argue with that.

Looking like a definite recovery service it what I am having to go for Fossie. Lack of overnight storage was a problem for Peter James what was a shame. Looking like the RAC will be getting my beer tokens next year as it 90 quid they seem to be the cheapest. Still not happy about this £500 repatriation total so will have to ask more about that one nearer the time.

I'm with the RAC, used them this year when my Kat broke down. They took around an hour to arrive, loaded my bike onto a bike trailer and took me to where I needed to go. Couldn't fault the service at all. Don't know what they are like with overseas cover though.

How often in a year will you be taking your classic vehicle on the continent, is it likely to breakdown with a fault that can 't be sorted by yourself or a local garage!

For me the cover offer by the classic insurance is more than adequate .
