I think the article was referring to the fact that their allowances have (in some cases !!!) risen by over 150% over 5 years. I am sure your pay rise wasnt that much ?

At the end of the day John, i dont care whose fault/decision it was at the council/Gov, i just think its the wrong one. Cutting a lollipop lady whose salary is what £3K-£4K a year isnt going to make that much differance to the overall cost savings. It will however put a whole load of kids lives at risk from crossing a very busy road. What price is that ?

Cheers

Pete
no, it doesnt. you fall for the simplest journalistic trick in the book. that of the spectacularly inacurate headline. you need to look out for small buzzwords dropped in that elude to the truth but make the headline still sound how the writer want it to. what that headline says is that in one single council in the whole of the uk, there was a rise of 158% in expenses in one department. but what the headline says is '150% increase in expenses' my pay has risen by about 50% since 2005, which is probably in line with what those reports say. and lets get it right, this isnt about pay, its expenses. i know a guy who has been a councilor in preston since i was an apprentice. he says that these days are the first times in his council career that doing his councilors job hasnt actually cost him money. in the past he took unpaid leave from work, paid busfares, had an office at his home, did local surgeres, made inumerable phone calls, visited residents and schools and businesses and liased with council depts and police and local health authorities and local media, and westminster politicians, all whilst holding down a full time job as a nurse. and almost exclusively he did it at his own expense. only in the last five years has he been able to actually claim his expenses back, so do you begrudge him that, or shall we once again allow politics to become the hobby of the rich who are the only ones able to finance it themselves.

Pete :( :(

and that article actually says that the council has refused to comment because a decision wont be made till the 28th of feb, so how can they be claiming the lollypop lady is for the boot when they havent actually made any decision yet.

dead right, I cant believe that there is no system in place to stop immigrants claiming for kids that they don't have and nothing seems to be due as this would affect their human rights.
WHAT ABOUT OUR FEKKIN RIGHTS !! I'm sick to the balls with this country giving away our culture and what we laughing call welfare state to these thieving scrounging ba****ds.

wow, people do love to believe whats written in the mail and the express and the torygraph dont they!! its easy to point and sceeam at the immigrant stories in the rag. but the bottom line is that the govt want you to do that, they want you to rant and spout, they want you to moan about your neighbour, the guy down the road, the bloke who works in your office. the truth is that the economy is bolloxed, i didnt see any familys of iraqi asylum seekers helping the council leaders of the uk carry bags of 50 quid notes out the back door of the halifax bank. the money was squandered by the bankers and the finance industry. they called in the govt to bail them out. this puts us all in debt, but hey, the bankers are all ok now, lets blame the foreighners and the guys at the council cos the government has cut their funding to pay out the debts of the banks

Everyday I visit mobile health clinics hourly, when they go to some areas with should, I say a major minority The amount of patients doubles , many ,many don't speak English and need an interpreter at £60- £100 .
This info is not from a newspaper , it is witnessed.

but what does that prove though? the world is full of apocryphal stories of the nasty immigrants taking all we have, its usually a thinly disguised racism. the largest group of non eu immigrants in the uk are recconed to be australians, but they are all white and look like us so its ok to ignore them. when i worked for a govt subcontractor we had the maintainance contract for the jcp sites in some pretty stereotypical high immigrant areas, blackburn and burnley to name but 2, yet time after time, the vast majority of those i saw in the job centres and dss offices week in and week out for 10 years or more werent immigrants, they were white chav class unemployed no hopers. now this is what i saw for 10 years in those places. yet none of you will remember this fact, cos its easier to carry on perpetuating the urban myth of the terrible immigrants.
the political classes must be pissing themselves at the reaction of the british people to the current wave of cutbacks. the government(who were elected in an election that they recieved over 10 million pounds of donations to the tory party from the very big city banks and institutions and their owners who they last week refused to come down hard on) have made swathes of cuts across the state. and who do we all rush to blame or pin responsibility on to? immigrants, council bosses, civil servants, anyone it seems except the government and the finance industry. whatever folk think about immigration, its a fact that the nhs isnt the only industry that would fold overnight if they were all forced to leave.
im staggered at the levels of casual prejudice that seem to be the norm these days. are you guys sure that you dont want to kick them nasty jocks out of the club? they might look like us, but they are from a very foreign land.
your point is fossie? let them die if they cant ask for health assistance?

define welfare state, define thieving scrounging bastards, define 'our' culture and provide sources for the claims you make about immigrants please, and the mail, express, telegraph sun and daily sport arent sources.

I would agree john that in these areas I mentioned the patients are not just immigrants, and I never mentioned race or creed though these areas seem to have double the work load from all walks, No my point was soley one of how the cost of the a specialised service offered to a Government dept knows no bounds.
Personally I have no problem with people using our health service but people who use it should contribute and there should be a legal requirement after a short period of time as residency hereto speak english, some have been here for 20 years or more and need an interpreter.
