Seems like website has been updated...
https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-i ... lling-hmrc

"If you import a vehicle into Great Britain from anywhere...
You need to make an import declaration. This is done using the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system or the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) system. You can arrange for an agent such as a freight forwarder to do this for you."

That's a bit crap and basically means you can't do this yourself anymore very easily (read, cheaply), personally I can't see why it had to change as NOVA covers it, but it is what it is. All thanks to those who voted Yes to Brexit...!

I did give info in post above, to a place in Barrow-in-Furness that might help and it might be worth trying a Customs Agent.

I just called this place https://mycarimport.co.uk/ on 01332 810442 and talked to a guy called Jack. He said he doesn't need to see the bike, just needs the paperwork, they do a complete package including the DVLA registration which was £299 + the 5% VAT plus £55 first registration fee. I didn't ask but they might just do the NOVA at a lesser cost, as once you have that, the DVLA bit is relatively easy.

Even though it is £299 extra it's easier than trying to find a UK frame with v5 and then move all the parts across.

I didn't vote 'yes' for Brexit as it would decimate my sales to Europe and affect my imports from Europe. It has and my business finishes in March 2023.

In this particular case it is due to Brexit as being part of the EU they couldn't impose the customs checks as that would go against the EU rules - free trade / borders and all that.

Sorry to hear about you finishing your business Smallkat, especially as I have bought some parts from you and the X7 is still not finished ( will it ever?! ), hopefully something else will come up for you to keep you occupied.

My business was on the decline and then my wholesaler for genuine Suzuki parts told me he was retiring. It's just such a hassle (because of Brexit) to import the stuff myself from Europe, I have decided to cash in my pension and see what happens. I still have a shit load of Suzuki stock that I will gradually sell via ebay.

If you want X7 stuff, email me and I will see if I have it.

Is it possible you simply spoke to the 'wrong' person?? And they fCucked up ??

Seems odd to change the rules in that way unless there is some sort of backhander goings on??
aparrently the rules changed in october, but they didnt bother to update their website.

nothing happening at the moment. im still figuring out whether its worth bothering throwing more cash at this. i see gsxg's advertised for just over a grand, and im thinking that if it went down the dvla/hmrc route id be spending that much on this. so it is stuck in the shed till the vein in my temple stops pulsing in frustrated rage at the tossers who make and then change the rules.

Just some 'thunking out loud' but how do they classify an "official importer" or whatever and what paperwork do you / they require from them ??

Just wondering if it can be solved by a friendly m/sport / vehicle company I happen to know very well
