Off top france on Wednesday , car serviced , everything set, Plan is to work tuesday , Smand tuesday night , pack car , overnight with the march's in Soton.

'kin car , which ain't showed any sign of problems decides to day on the top of Snake pass , it didn't want it's coolant , no matter how much Smand fed it with more it , steamed it out.

Now forgive me for this Karma thing , but Saturday morning as part of the prep for the journey , I got the local tyre bay to swap front wheels with rear , ( more tread on the rear so they are on the front now.) Anyway the chap doing the job said I've one of these (Toyota Estima) with a cracked at home , it's a common fault. When was yours done ?, what could I say except it hasn't been an issue and has been a top machine for some 6 years.

So speak too soon, and you will suffer -karma!

Anyway tomorrow is no longer a work day (that pays) No tomorrow is a day of finding and lobbing the thermostat,& Crossing many many digits.

To paraphrase " do I feel lucky?"

Cracked tyre wall? Cracked engine block? Cracked cylinder head? Cracked black pepper corns?

gis us a clue?

Oh and take some rad weld with you and leak sealant...................cross your toes as well!

cracked cylinder head i think. Ouch:( Your mechanic friend was right Fossie. "they all do it". UK previa are ok. Imported Estima and Emina's all suffer from this. Not sure why. Have been told that you should fit a bigger rad on em - helps apparently.

Update , a day spent flushing out the entire cooling system. How does so much sluge end up in there, and before you ask yes coolant with inhibitor is used.
The expansion bottle was 1/4 full of red brown sludge.
Anyway 3 pm o'clock having started at 8.30am the seats are back in the floor plan in situ (engine- underseats.) TEST RUN -----OK.
3.30PM Why is there water leaking from the flywheel housing? no water there.
Closer inspection under the foam sound proofiing on the engine block reveals ----a leaking core plug.

Just happen to know someone who has one. After cooling down it is tw*ted out and a new one GENTLY tw*ted in . 30 mile test drive . Dry core plugs.

Callyboy I am aware of the reputation , but ours has the larger alloy rad already and a turbo timer to run cooling system after a run , that means you can set the timer to run the engine for a measure time even after the doors are locked and you are in the Cafe/Pub /house.

Forgot to say , got a new thermost as a matter of course. You can't run a toyota with out one as the sealing ring sits on the edge of thermostat and with out it it falls in.
No I didn't find out I asked and took their advice. See I do listen sometimes!!!!!

Drill a few more holes in it then............or rip the middle out of you old one and just put the outer ring back in with the seal!

So you have never removed a thermostat from a car that has been overheating in the past then?
