the NOT A KATANA bike thread,

Post by johnr » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:54 pm

ok here we go, i see plenty of nice bikes about and have hundreds of pics of stuff that i find interesting despite them not being katanas. so, how about this one, if we want, we'll sticky it and you can post your pics of all the two (and three i suppose) wheeled stuff thats not kat related. this way it all stays in the same place and we can all avoid clogging the forum with posts abpout the bantams we once owned, or some poxy suzuki step thru or rattly old mz

to start us off, i'll post some pics i took a year or four ago of one of the most bonkers mmachines ive ever seen. home made sprinter with a home built frame, and even expansion pipes made in his shed by blowing the flat profiles out using an industrial powerwasher(i kid you not!!) engine is a 500cc krauser two stroke four cylinder inline unit from a former gp sidecar outfit, it made over 100bhp, and the guy who built it said the power band was less than 1000rpm wide. if you remember or ever saw 2 stroke sidecar racers you will know how lairy they were, essentially they used the back wheel like a second clutch and just spun the wheel to avoid dropping out of the power. ok if youve a body for balast in the platform, and a third wheel to keep it all upright, but in a super light super long solo!!!

and as you might guess it was LOUD!!!

So, come on then, lets see what interesting, unusual, or utterly bonkers non katanas we have seen kicking about the country!!!

heres another , same meeting, weslake 4 valve 500 single running on alcohol, with a shorrocks supercharger, ran the same times over the 1/8th mile as my 1170 kat, although he lost out over the 1/4, behind it is a c15bsa single, with a supercharger, again running on alcohol, 13 second quarter mile time!!! the guy said they started sprinting in the 1970's and used to buy the cheapest engines they could find, so they ended up with a couple of garages full of bsa 250 single motors, and theyre still working through them, blowing em up, building new ones!! propper stars the pair of em, compete under the name 'team slip up racing'!!!

never thought they would be running a petrol v8 in a tank, would have thought that diesel would have been more practical and safer, assuming they could get them to start in the cold!!
