Hi all. Putting a 1100 Efe lump in a 750 s1 kat. How do I let dvla know? Will they be awkward?

Re: engine change
Many people have done it with no problem. Insurance company is more likely to question it.
I've changed engines in all sorts of bikes in the past, and just ammended the V5 and sent it back with no hassle, but not done that for more than 10 years, so perhaps things have changed?

Re: engine change
Dvla just need to know new engine number.
Insurance should only have an issue if its on a classic policy and then the engine is too new to be classed as classic.

not so.Cat wrote:Dvla just need to know new engine number.
i did this a year ago.... and they need proof that it is what you say it is. that can be something as simple as a receipt from a "friendly" garage on a bit of paper with a stamp on it to verify the engine size (in cc) and it's number. that was all they wanted from me.... either that or an inspection from a recognised body eg: the AA or similar. finding a friendly garage to scribble something on a bit of paper with a stamp on was a lot easier
insurance company didn't seem to care either way (that was footman james), just told them what was done and it cost a few extra ££.... literally, a few extra ££.

Re: engine change
Actually quite impressed that DVLA are doing that much.
I'd always inform insurance of specifics of any change though, they are wriggly barstewards and if they can find a reason not to pay up when called upon, they will.

Re: engine change
dvla are getting keen cos people have been taking the piss. theres plenty of classic bikes about that seem to say bsa or triumph on the log book, but in the flesh bear a sneaky resemblance to a modern streetfighter or a big harley twin. couple it in with trikes and kit cars and dvla decided to act. first they updated the mot test so that its all done online from the test centre and everything is linked back to swansea, chuck in the msva and sva tests for one off vehicles and it was only a matter of time before engine swaps came under their beady eye. theyre essentially building a system of vehicle registration that will eventually be the same as the german tuv.

Re: engine change
Not sure whether to be scared by TuV type testing here or not. After all there still seems to be a lot of 'fighters and customs being built in Germany.
Remembering the way I used to butcher bikes about in the 80's I'm fairly sure better regulation is a good thing. Some of the stuff I used to see back then scares the hell out of me now, and gawd knows how our PoS used to stay together!
Just remembered an occasion when I telephoned through my details to a local MOT centre and they posted the certificate to me!! Those were the days eh?
