Up coming CMM

The CMM contacted me today to try and sell me advertising space in the edition that will be out during the Stafford show. It seems they are doing a 4 page spread on the Katana and. Our club advert would fit right in , only £70 for a credit card size advert.................. Oh yeah top bargain. :o

However when I explained our pop up project they were interested and were going to discuss if they had room to use it in the same edition as it would fit very well.............
The charging for a small advert seemed to fade away.

Should know mid next week. :?

So here the email from CMM , they don't give up in the quest for making us pay , bearing in mind £70 for a credit card size advert means we would need 7 new members just to break even , so the offer us a reduced rate over 3 editions that'll be £100ish so ten new members , we can't afford that , in this modern world the majority of people who read the CMM type mag aren't the club joining types they are the trailer to a show type, and when they get to the show they don't spend money unless it is at a reduced rate.

Should I go with the advert ? :? :shock:

::Hi Fossie
I have done some looking into the Katana feature for you that are coming up in the next issue. I have also passed on you’re news story to our editor and I am pretty confident it will be going in the magazine but probably not this issue as we only have a wee and a half until the magazine goes to print. It will most likely be the next (December)

I have good news though. This issue is the start of the ‘Project Katana’ feature which will span 5-6 issues which will be spaced out over the next 12 months. This feature will be to do with the restoration, ownership and riding of the Katana and will progress over the next few months. This is the perfect opportunity to promote you’re club and your own restoration project/competition. We also have a retro reboot in this issue which is a page that shows what the Katana would look like if they did a 2013 model. So that is two very relevant features.

Are you interested in advertising next to the start of the project Katana feature if I can offer you a reduced rate? We could come to some arrangement including editorial and I could get the price right down if you agree to advertise next to the ‘Project Katana’ feature for the next 3 issues that it appears in. I can probably get the editor to include you’re club details in the feature and also mention you’re project and the event you are planning. This could be some excellent coverage if you have any budget to go for it.:::

I cannot start to begin to explain my total disinterest in people whose only aim in their daily life is to extract money from others so for their own gain... I realise it's his(?) job but I certainly wouldn't be interested in handing over hard to come by ££ to someone whose only interest is selling ad space!

Doing a restoration feature in a magazine is to help prospective owners in their own restoration work and also to be a good read, it's in the interests of the articles to provide information of where extra help can be got as well as parts and people who can help, therefore it's in their interest to mention the club in any articles they do on the Katana. NOT to state that if we advertise they might be able to twist the editors arm to mention us. Sounds a bit like advertising blackmail doesn't it !

I wouldn't bother, just explain it's a not for profit club and there's no funds available for any sort of advertising, but to help the club grow it would be nice to have a mention throughout their project as an info link.

meh... maybe it's a salesman thing that irritates me then. either way, a CC size ad isn't really gonna make a massive difference to 'em is it :D

We don't need an advert. Members just appear when they want to and from free advertising that we do perfect well ourselves
