I've ben playing around with the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry site so see which of my old bikes are still about (based on Tax disc renewal, so it's a bit hit and miss if it's off the road for ages).

Anyway my last 650 Katana HCL847Y is still being taxed and on the road (I sold it in the latish 90s) - has anyway seen it or even owns it?

That got me wondering if it would be worth having a Section where bikes could be added - either by past or present owners just so it's history could be built up for future owners. For instance are any of the members been one of the past 7 keepers of my 1100 Katana SGF180Y? If you were then your bike is still goinf strong.

Just a thought, because I was bored at work!

I did try this in our newsletter a while back. No response though I did get photo's of fluffs 1100 taken in 1984. The problem with doing it on a website is you re publishing reg numbers in a public area , even in a members area.

Maybe we could colate info as a club on a database for sharing if people gave permission?

If you tried and no response then probably not worth trying again. Cat's idea might work if you asked for bike details at membership renewal / sign up. Just thought it might be useful to find bikes history and possibly avoid dogs on Ebay

I can't see the problem with reg numbers on the net though (after all I display my reg number to the world everytime I take my bike out), though I see quite a few ebay adverts take them off - what am I missing? I more concerned about the info about me personally that is available more than my vehicles!

Imagine the scenario you are sitting at home when the postman delivers an official letter, you live in Norfolk but you have received a parking fine or a fine. For jumping red light or box junction etc. you have never taken your bike to London ,so how can it be?
Have you tried to argue with these people who by the way are in Coventry and just watch CCTV all day.
They have photo evidence.

Even worse with a car. Because by he time you are informed you haven't paid the congestion charge it is now in he hundreds.

Some one has noticed your reg on he web. As long as that reg number is taxed and tested no police officer will stop the bike /vehicle or take any notice . If it is taxed
insured the ANPR won't make a noise.

They choose vehicles miles from London to clone as it harder to trace.
I realise that is unlikely with a 30 year old bike , but why supply someone who my be in another country the info.

I agree. When I used to commute from North Walsham to Norwich on my XT600 Tenere. Got home one night to find that the Plods had been round to have a chat about my exploits down in Kent . As I had been nowhere near Kent on it and the bike was legit was soon dealt with. But the worst aspect was that my wife (now ex) answered the knock on the door to 2 police officers not long before I was due home, shook here up a bit at the time, but I guess she's not that bothered now
