Driving licence category loss.

If you remember a year or 2 ago, there was a fair bit of fuss in the media about peoples driving licences losing categorys when they sent them back to dvla for exchange. often the full bike entitlement would vanish and you would be forced to re apply and take your bike test again, because returned licences were shredded. well, ive just renewed mine and sues licences finally, and you can do the whole thing online. this has been introduced following the closure of all the uks dvla offices, so, you can now renew whilst you still have your old licence in your posession, meaning that at least if a category disappears in the switchover, you will have the old copy as proof. you can even swap a paper licence for a photocard too, they are linked to the passport office, so if you have a passport, you apply, and they use your passport photo.
just thought id mention this, as a couple of years back this was quite a worry for folks with the full bike category.

Ha ha if that's the case then they've probably chipped it or something so they can track where we are and how fast we travel etc. :D

they can track mine all they like, it lives in the safe at home. there is no obligation whatsoever in the uk to carry your driving licence on your person or when driving. if you get pulled and plod asks to see it, tell him to whistle. you dont have to show it. they can issue a producer, but you dont need to carry it.

The only reason I don't move house is so I can keep my pink paper one (well, paper and sellotape). No need to worry about renewing and I can also see all my previous (expired at present) speeding convictions as they are still on it!
