Putting a Cat C bike back on the road....

Juniors 125 has been Cat C'd due to a low speed drop (parked on centre stand and some teenager on a CBR125 ran into the back of it, knocked it off the stand and set it down onto it's side, ran over his foot and sent him down to the deck too).
Minor damage (clutch lever and fork seal which was weeping anyway). Not happy about the insurance guy C ing it, I personally would have thought D, but there you go! By his own admission he didn't do bikes, and every little scratch and ding went on the report, even though it is old damage, and he was told as such!
I know that bikes are not subject to a VIC inspection (I rang DVSA and asked them), but somebody has said that it will have to have the MOT renewed before going back on the road.
Does anybody know anything about this? There are multiple conflicting statements on t'interweb about VIC (hence why I checked for myself), but nothing about getting another MOT! One MOT tester says yes, the other I have asked says no!
The bits will be here Tuesday, and I can have it ready for then. Gotta move fast, as the courtesy bike is now off hire, and his instructor (he is now doing A2 now he is 19) has lent him one of his training school bikes, but his insurance won't cover it, as he isn't the registered keeper and owner!
Any thoughts appreciated!

I think that for C & D write offs you need an engineers report and then inform DEVOSLA (or whatever they are these days)
You will have read this:
https://www.abi.org.uk/~/media/Files/Do ... lvage.ashx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It implies that for a Catagory write off the V5C will have been surrendered to the Insurer as they take title of the vehicle on a write off, but if the assesment and settlement (including Buy Back) took place over a short period they may not have taken title.
It only referes to "Cars" but I do not think there is a distinction between cars and PTWs.
Clearly the best people to talk to are the insurers as they will be able to give a definative answer. The bike will be on the ABI database as a Cat C already so it wont make much difference who you chose re-insure with.
But I would expect to have it inspected and that may well take the form of a new MOT

I had a Q plate bike, not designed for road use, I put a plate on, contacted VOSA
https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... ces-agency" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; had to get it inspected first, may be worth contacting them?

Hi Chaps,
I'm awaiting a call back from VOSA (or what the hell ever they are called these days!). I have been told by DVSA that bikes are definately NOT subject to a VIC inspection.
As far as title and V5 passing to the insurance company - That is what we wanted to happen! Pay out, and take the bike, but we were told in no uncertain terms by the assessor that wouldn't happen with the company he was working for, and we had to settle for a reduced payment, including "salvage" deduction (which on bikes is fairly high! Valued at £750, got paid £517!). He visited on 20th December, and the cheque was paid on the 28th Dec.
We are kind of between a rock and a hard place. Ideally, I'd like to get shot of the CG as it's jinxed - it's hit the deck more times than I care to think about, and Junior only has 4 weeks to go until his insurance renewal. It's not worth getting another 125, as now he is 19, he is taking his MOD1 test on Thursday, and depending how he gets on, his MOD2 shortly after (his instructor is happy with his riding, he just needs to learn the test routes).
We can't flog the CG "as is" as that will mean cancelling the insurance, and with 4 weeks to go he doesn't want to lose a years NCD. His instructor has offered to loan him one of his training bikes until he gets his big bike ticket, but as he is not the owner and registered keeper, Junior's insurance company (Hastings) will not cover it.
So, the only option available is to stick the CG back on the road for the time being, so at least he can get back and forth to college. For the sake of about £40 in parts, it's worth doing. It's just the hoops that need to be jumped through that nobody seems to know about!
My college tutor bought a Triumph Tiger that was on a C, repaired it, put it in for MOT and that was that. Have spoken to the local MOT guy who owns 2x C bikes, and as far as he is aware there are no issues. He says Cat B may need an engineers report etc, but C don't...
I'm confused!

That's what I thought... A & B were parts only, and had to have all identifying numbers etc removed, and other stuff done to render them too difficult to repair...

DVSA have finally replied to my email:
"Thank you for your email enquiry dated 10th January 2015, concerning the above.
Provided your motorcycle is repaired to a roadworthy condition, is insured, taxed and has a current MOT it can return to the road. In some circumstance your insurance company may request the vehicle go through a new MOT before they will re-insure the vehicle but that would be their requirements not ours at the DVSA as the current MOT would still stand until its expiry. "
Not so bad after all!
