Sorry but if you are easily bored turn away now!

I need to get this off my chest!

About 3 weeks ago my 2001 Volvo V70 decided to have a hissy fit and break down! I have been waiting for this very common V70 fault to rear its ugly head for 3 years...and eventually it did 3 weeks ago!
Basically the fly-by-wire throttle body has Fooked up ! shit design!

So as per the VOC I sent my throttle body off to the firm down souf who claim to be able to fix them.............any way after being promised that the faulty part would be back to me repaired and ready in 4 days ready for action I sent it of for a refurb..........they then told me that they had run out of parts and it would take longer than expected.

Eventually after 2 weeks and £180 later if turned up and was duly re-fitted to the car!

Hoo fookin ray............... :D

5 minutes later it started mis-behaving again! it was still fooked! :x
I returned it to the firm and then was told that they had re-tested it and it had a fault that they could not repair!

It was then returned to me after they gave me a refund............apart from all the postage it has cost me!

So today I phoned my local Volvo Main Stealer up and asked for a price to repair my car...............that will be £525 sir

The new part was was £294+ vat, they wanted 1.8 hours labour to fit the new ETM and do the software/data upload / install. Er I dont think so m8

They then gave me a new quote of £411 fitted which included half an hours labour at a cost of £47.50 ! ( £95 per hour for labour) and £0.50p for the software install and upgrade.............basically I had to pay it as they are the only Volvo Stealer near me............but 30 miles from me!

I had to drive my car 10 miles at 20 mMPH until i found a nice lay-by to break down in  ...........and then i had to phone the AA up and tell them I had broken down!
When the AA eventually turned up i asked them ( after bullshittting my head off for 10 mins) to take me to the nearest Volvo garage........The AA man said he could only take me to a garage within 10 miles of my house..............I said the Volvo garage is nearly the same distance away and there is no Garage in my home town who can fix the car!

So eventually after a bit of persuading by me ( £10 in his greasy palm) he decided to tow me to the volvo stealer 23 miles away!
Sorry to all the drivers in the 4 mile tail back we caused on the A590..........

Eventually we got to the Volvo main Stealers............it only took them 20 mins to fix the car!

The part they have fitted IS going to fail again !!!

So basically it has cost me £411 today to repair my car with a part which WILL fail again.............it could be in a month...........or it could be in 5 years!

Fookin cars eh?

Volvo's

Don't brake down much but when they do it would probably be cheaper to buy another car than take it to the dealer

Ive got a v40

well you did buy an ovlov, should of bought a ford  and knew the fault would show up at some point, would it not have been wise to search the part in advance at a cheaper price ??, you've had 3 years to sort it out, what you been doing man ? messing around restoring old bikes instead of looking after your lovely swedish lump of iron, bet you got no sympathy from the ovlov owners club  ;)

We've got a real Volvo here (a 940 LPT CD Estate, running LPG for those who haven't seen it), not a Ford parts bin special like yours Bob.

The funny thing is the work van suffered a similar problem to your car recently, a EGR valve and a new crank sensor and it's 'fixed'*

I think that's why the newest thing we have here is the Volvo and that's 14 years old.

*fixed in the sense that the tickover's lumpy and the fuel computer has gone to pot and it's worse on fuel than it was before.

isnt volvo owned by ford? couldnt a ford part be made to fit?

and i would have thought a volvo restricted to 20mph wouldnt be regarded as faulty by most bikers, indeed it may well be regarded by bikers as the safest volvo on the rd!!!!!!!!

The Part that failed was manufactured by a firm called Magnetti Marelli and is only fitted on V70s and S80s from 1999 to 2002...............No other fix apart from some Uba expensive repair from some firm in Canada who charge a kings ransom!

Thanx for the votes of sympathy chaps :? ..................remind me to take the piss out of you all the next time you all have a problem......................... ;)

I just remembered......................I already do that dont i

Have a nice day!.....and be safe out there! 8-)
