Re: 550 carbs
oh Damn. I was trying to get 1 and 4 higher. Have I gone the wrong way then ? I was too busy concentrating on the bloody needle and not the actual reading on the dial. Bugger. Will have another go tomoz if i get the time.
Thanks mate.

Re: 550 carbs
If you have the time to do it again, then give it a go.
I would go for 1 division on the gauge reading Higher Vacuum (Lower Pressure) to give it a bit of extra draw across the filter.
But all the same value would be good enough to give a steady pick up on the throttle.
All you can do suck it and see!*
*Is that my coat? If you would so kind , and I'll be on my way!

Re: 550 carbs
Because I have put it all together now ,I think what I am going to do is just reconnect 1 and 4 up and increase them on their own. I know where 2 and 3 are so it should be ok. Its a right pain getting 2 and 3 connectors in, thats why I am only doing 1 and 4.
Should be ok eh ?

Re: 550 carbs
Well Pete
As it's back together, I'd stick some miles on it and see how it feels.
You're not going to blow up the engine as it is.
If it doesn't feel right, or it runs like a bag of the proverbial, then maybe have another go.
But if not, leave it until the next service.
Sometimes you end up tearing your hair out over nothing at all

Re: 550 carbs
Cheers Jim. I only need to take the tank off and the 2 outside vacuum plugs. Shouldnt be too much of a problem.
Bloody annoyed at myself for such a stupid mistake.
Bike does go better than before though
maybe that was the air screws I had adjusted.
Still....gives you guys lots of ammo to shoot me down

Re: 550 carbs
Just adjusting the outers only won't work , as they are connected, as the reading comes off 3 , so if it works leave it be , sounds like you have got it close enough.
Don't forget you are dealing with a 30 year old , that has been fingered by many previous owners, so won't be as tight as it once was!

Re: 550 carbs
you know what fossie..........your bloody right ....as usual. its goes better than before. Will leave it.
Also.......Been looking at the pics I took today, and the last one I took, I took inside my garage because I thought the sun was too bright outside for a good photo....and that one looks a lot better.
So I will leave it alone until the next time. At some point in time the cam cover has to come off to fix the oil weep i am getting from the half moon seals on the cam end covers. Pretty sure its not the holes for the caps. Also at some point the valves need checking and also..........one or more spark plug threads need doing.....so it can all get done at the same time.
This is the last pic i took today in the garage.
