ignition - 650 kat
does anyone know what the difference would be between an 1100 ignition box and a 650 ignition box? different part numbers but what would happen if i plugged an 1100 ignition into a 650 harness?
the 650 in my garage has no spark... plenty of juice to the coils when key is turned on but no spark. haven't swapped out the pickups yet but it's gotta be one of those as the wiring seems ok.... or am i being naieve (sp)?
thoughts?
cheers

Yep have to agree with you about the wiring and where the Reg/rec and CDI are situated, I had to sort mine yesterday as it was just stuffed down behaind the tank.
I found it easier to remove the rear wheel and inner fender and the battery box to re-instate.
I have never heard of a CDI going tits up, so like Pete said, check all the wires for continuity with a meter and check all the block connectors and the multi earth connection which is bolted to the frame inside the battery box!
keep at it Sparkles!

Cdi's do go on the 650's trust me I know, the one in France has a duff cdi because the wires that fit behind battery box and inbetween airboxchaffed .
The 1100 one will give a spark they are virtually the same just slightly different timing, but thatis mainly governed by pick ups.

Re: ignition - 650 kat
cheers guys... the wiring on THIS loom seems in pretty good nick tbh although it is a REPLACEMENT loom since the trouble started. i'll check the old one in the bag for chaffing and general knackeredness... good news re the pickup and ignition. i have spare 1100 parts so as long as that will help ID where the issue is that was my concern. didn't want to plug in an 11 ignition and fry it cos the loom hated it. same with the pickups. there were some pretty dodgy earths on it tbh but as it's in pieces (the wiring) i'll get out the sandpaper and wire brush
presume the alternator / reg.rec is the same deal as all other suzuki's? any of the 3 wires from the alternator can go to any of the 3 wires into the reg/rec? want to eliminate the headlight loop and some of the plugs on the alternator side look a little blackened at the end where the temp has come up a bit

Yes, re-the rec/reg you need to bypass the headlight switch with the 1 phase that is wired through it, I think its a white /with green trace wire and this needs to be connected directly to the white/red trace wire thus bypassing the headlight switch!
I know this because I was working on my 650 wiring yesterday!
