Coils and stove enamalled frame

Post by AndySwad » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:41 am

Has anybody scraped off the coating to get down to bare metal to help the heat sink through the coil fixing bolts?

Is it necessary?

Will the coils lose enough heat through the thick powder coat or am I thinking too hard?

Are you sure it's a Kat? Kat engine, Kat clocks, Kat wheels and forks? Mmm! It's not silver is it!

Never done it myself tbh Andy. Not sure it would make that much difference mate. Do coils get that hot?

dyna coils certainly get pretty warm.... seen em crack through heat though shouldn't be an issue when riding in this part of the world

im not sure they would need to lose heat through the frame. certainly it needs to be able to earth through the frame, but if coils generated enough heat to require a heatsink, then they would probably be manufactured with a finned surface like a reg rec.

I did on mine, but only to get a good connection to earth...................then I coated the bare areas afterwards with some electrical clear earth sealent coating afterwards.
