Gasket Paper

Post by Uncle Bob » Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:53 pm

I have new gaskets for the clutch and starter covers on the 400, but being the 400 and Japan market they aren't cheap, I though I would buy some paper and use the new ones as a template to make them, which I have done before on the GT200 X5. I bought some Flexiod paper which is a brown colour, but the old 400 ones are black in colour and more brittle than papery! I was wondering if this fibre paper would be better, but what thickness should I get if so?

Anyone made their own gaskets on a more modern bike and if so what paper and thickness did you use? I'd rather do it properly than have to redo again later on cause it leaks (so no Cornflake packets!)

Partly answering my own question after research, I guess I should measure the thickness of one of the new ones (didn't do now as too late!), and I saw in some Athena gasket bumpf they use Reinz sealing papers, so will pursue that route, as found a seller on Ebay UK that I can ask.
