Maybe just another fib he told you!!! Well the bike might have been from Italy but I'm sure from what you have said it's got 80mph internals. You can still go faster, you just won't know how much faster - at the moment you could say you were just trying to keep a social distance between you and the police car chasing...

Just a thought...has the Speedo had replacement needles fitted?
When you change them, unless you pop them over the stops and let them settle to their true rest position, mark this and fit the new ones in the same place, when you remove them the spindles move backwards without you noticing.
When you fit new needles to the stop position, they then read incorrectly!
As you may be able to determine ...lesson learned the hard way.

To be honest Bob I’ve never been inside the unit and judging by some of the cock ups on the rest of the bike that’s a possibility. Summat to check methinks
There rubbish them Jap bikes lad they won't last five minutes! you want to get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!

Makes sense and saved me asking for clarification before I swap needles. Ta
