new caliper seals ?

Post by callyboy » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:59 pm

Was getting the calipers ready for a lick of paint and decided to push the pistons down ready for some new pads. pistons were pretty stuck(ten years outside has taken its toll), but managed to get them down with a pad spreader. should i be changing the seals on the pistons while i am working on them. Not sure if they were leaking before.

Cheers

I would say yes 'cos if they leak you have to do it all again.

Thanks fossie. Much sense as usual from you. Will try and get the old pistons out and put some new seals on. Think they are going to be buggers to get off. Everything else has been !!! is it worth getting one of those piston removal tools or should i try and get em out with a blast of air. (dont fancy the grease trick - too messy).

Pete, don't do what I did and buy non genuine seals, I bought pattern ones after putting new pistons in and couldn't stop the buggers leaking... Lesson learnt & money wasted!!!
