Re: Valve Stem Seals
As John says emmisions are not checked on a motorcycle so it can't fail for that......I fact seeing as your bike is first registered before 1 July 1986 you can use a piece of scaffolding tube as your exhaust and solv your search for. Zorst while you are at it.!
Welcome to mechanicing the ostrich method .......something I applaud.

Re: Valve Stem Seals
how much have you run it since it was done. it can take perhaps 50 miles or more to burn out an exhaust full of oil if its propper coated inside.

get yerself some 1170 pistons in it. might mor make it smoke less, but you will be going too quick to care about speed....

Re: Valve Stem Seals
no, not really top end. big bore gives it a kick up the arse in the midrange where you really need it. clearly theres a knock on advantage to the top end because youre getting up there faster, but the principal advantage of a big bore kit is to boost the torque curve and allow better pulling power.

Re: Valve Stem Seals
That exhaust would probably work better on a red and silver bike.

Re: Valve Stem Seals
well, assuming its not leaking out anywhere, which at .6 litres in 80 miles im sure it would be apparent by now. so its a safe assumption that its burning it, have you checked the colour of the plugs? id imagine there should eb some residue on the plug in the pot causing the problem. have you checked that the breather isnt blocked or obstructed? a blocked breather can cause crankcase pressure to blow by the pistons and into the combustion chambers. the other options could be a duff head gasket, or the valve seals as has been suggested. other than that, it might be rings or pistons or bores. not particularly helpful i know, but im pretty sure that we have the resources in the club to sort this out.

Re: Valve Stem Seals
Have you checked the oil again since. Sometimes when the oil was being used it takes ages to settle , sometimes over night . As for baffles blocking the blow back , it is possible .
Carry on with ostrich method and carry 1/2 litre of oil.
