Today jmac returned with the compression tester, to do what we should have done before , that is check he reading with some oil in the cyls .

We tested the cyls dry again but with throttle open fully 1=140 2 =100 3=135 4=150

Hum... With some oil down he bores. 1=290 2=290 3= 300 4=300+ :o  :?:

So from that we deduced that maybe the calibration on the tester is not as we thought and that all the rings are suspect. :?: :(

Anyway the 650 it's jetz ohne motor as it could described in German .
Jmac will delv into it for me next week.

if its been stood, then its possible the rings have stuck or the bores were rusty.

Tis wot we decided, jmac has a honing kit , we'll get new rings anyway, lap the valves in. After we check the crank. The cam chain issue is still evident.

Got a phone call from jmac this morning, he has got the head and barrels off, he don't hang about.

Anyway all the valves are a nice tannin brown colour , but number 3 is black. He didn't say sooty or not.
Any ideas ? The rings were all free and undamaged, but he hadn't checked any clearances.

He will lap the valves in and fit new seals when they arrive. Should we fit new rings anyway.

have you measured the ring gaps when theyre in the bores to see if theyre worn? is he going to hone the bores? ive a honing tool if you want to borrow it, alternatively i can hone them for you.

This is what I was thinking, due to the cam chain issue ie: tight spot possibly slightly out though I did check it twice. But by building it back up this should get it spot on , we can check crank movement while we are there.
Lapping valves in a stem seals is never a waste anyway is it.

But timing is looking favourite .

i love valve lapping, it appeals to the tny ocd bit in my brain that likes stuff that should be the same to actually be the same. i have been known to take them all out and do them again if im not exactly suited.
