I remember seeing all three on a stand in Kens motorcycles when I bought my 550EF so we must have got some, the twin shock one was the ES (D) which must have been sold along side the Kat SD at some point but I don’t ever remember seeing one in the show rooms
It probably depended on the actual dealers stock, Heron Suzuki as it still was then where and are just importers so the actual dealers are independent franchisee...
However the point is that now 30 odd years later if you are looking for an update engine the search could potentially result in either engine.

Yes GSX1100EZ was basically a Kat spec engine but un-faired and the ES(D) was basically the same bike but with a frame mounted headlight fairing (sort of Kat'esque)
Both twin shock

The ESD was a cracking engine, it had some of the EFE stuck in it.

ESD was pre EF series and basically a Kat spec motor just as the EZ was.....

Blix, thanks for the explaining. We had the E and the ES, the GS1150ES is one of my favorite bikes ever. The Kat tops it through.

Kryten, you are right GS1150ES, I read yours 2nd. I'm glad we didn't get the EF, I think it's a shame to hide that motor. Did ours have that 16 inch front wheel? It looks off.
82 Katana 1000 (work in progress, but she will be beautiful she has a dedicated sugar daddy)
2010 Z1000 (50k miles, I think that is like 60 Kilometer's or so)

Personally I like the old aircooled lump,
I think it kinda makes the bike,
My 1000 kat has:
1170 Wiseco pistons,
EFE head (flowed by me)
MCCT,
home made exhaust,
SC primaries,
36mm throttle bodies,
Programmable engine management system,
135bhp and 92ftlb, its awesome.
