Re: 550 carbs
Just popped out for another stare !
Throttle cant go any other way by the looks of it. The nipple of the cable goes onto the lever there.
I think i will take the throttle bracket off the carbs and see if that free's up some room.

Re: 550 carbs
Ok sussed it (collective sigh of relief)
Have had to undo the throttle bracket on top of the carb. Pushed it over to the right and this frees up enough room to get my tool(ooooh errrr missus) onto the nut. I may have to disconnect the choke cable as well though as i think I can only get it on the nut when the choke knob is pulled up. Will have another look tomoz(if it aint raining).
I seem to work better after a couple of drinks

Re: 550 carbs
Back in the Dim and Distant Past.......So very Nearly in the year One, As Ian Anderson would say.
I had a 550 Kat, and if my memory serves me right I had to remove the throttle and choke mounting brackets (and re-fit the screws) to balance the carbs.
Clearly you need to re-fit these before you can ride the machine again
You can pull the choke actuating bar across from the Left hand Side to start from cold, and use the idle adjuster Knob to raise or lower the tickover.
I also seem to recall a fair bit of Anglo Saxon, and bits missing from knuckles. But that might be something else altogether different.

JIM !!!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ???????????????
Could have saved me a whole lot of trouble if you had shared your pearls of wisdom sooner
Will have a look a the choke tomoz. Obviously dont want that on while i am trying to balance the fookers.

Re: 550 carbs
Think I used a box spanner and a long screw driver, as I did'nt (and still don't) have a tool such as yours

You seemed to be having fun.....
I would probably have used a box spanner, and a long screwdriver, As I didn't (and still don't) have a tool such as yours, Pete.

Re: 550 carbs
Just disconnect the choke cable and lob it in the bin, it is just in the way and will stick slightly on when you least wont it to , making you think you have a coil/ fuelling problem.
Ask jmac
if it's the one in the centre of the yoke type! If not and it's ther latter switch gear mounted one that's seems fine so ignore last!
