Recently got a replacement engine for one of my 650's. (£215 including postage from Cornwall  )
Before fitting it , I took the time to clean out the mesh strainer in the sump.
Most people never do it. Any way you can imagine my worry about the engine when I took this item from it , What is it , where and how did it get in there ?

Also this with 2 bits of something hard plastic and metal pins. camchain guide blade?

Not easy to see but you can imagine what was in sump. All under the gasket edge was ditiatrus

From strainer

Oil filter was clean and new , so I hope this is from a previous moment , but it goes to show why the strainer is there.

Incedently it seems fine but will know more after a day at work.

I know ( not from personal experience) that if you put the wrong lower engine mounting bolts in the wrong side on certain suzukis from the era....that it can punch a hole through the crank cases............So check for chemical metal on the cases around the engine mountings.............and also suzuki had a habbit of hiding crankcase bolts behind clutches, sump pans, strainers and gears, etc. So ruff arse home mechanics sometimes forced the cases apart whilst there were bolts still in situe................causing the same sort of damage!

Up date , well 260 miles today and at end of day sat there ticking over , through snow , rain , no hiccups . Maybe the group prayre session worked! Cheers Amen.

Hard to believe that they sorted a prior problem and then could'nt be bothered to clean the sump properly before the rebuild

No this engine is oil tight , smooth and is probably one of the best 650 I've had.
Now done 700 miles.
Clearly all left over from a previous mishap.
