Start up after rebuild

After a rebuild of my 1100 that has taken 12 months and not the 2 months I had planed, I am about to fire up the bike for the first time.

The engine has been sat for about 6 months after going back together. Everything was covered in oil on the rebuild but I am just looking for any advise. I have just got all the covers back on and filled the engine with oil. Should I put it into gear and turn the rear wheel to try and prime the oil system up to the cams, remove the oil way bolts and syringe oil into the head oilways, inject some oil down the spark plug holes and leave overnight, or should I just start it up and let it idle.

Any advise from seasoned engine rebuilders.

turn over a few times by hand if you want then take off the plug caps and spin it off the starter motor. 6 months isn't very long to be sitting tbh.... but maybe be on the safe side 'eh

I wouldn't worry about it - just push the button.

i agree, it wont take any harm if its been properly built. keep your eye on the oil light, make sure its out before you do anything else after firing it up, chances are it will go out within a second or 3.

Just spin it over with the plugs removed, until the oil light goes out. Then pop the plugs back in and start the old girl up............

Good luck!

Turned it over with the plugs out and the oil light went out within a few seconds. Put the plugs back in and went for start up, but no joy. Checked for spark, all ht leads giving spark ok. Tank off and checked I had the plugs on the correct pots, ok, checked the wiring to the coils was correct, ok. Pulled a plug out and it was bone dry.

I drained the carbs when the bike came off the road, and didn't touch them for the rebuild thinking that If the bike didn't run right after the rebuild it wouldn't be the carbs.

Going to take a look today.

Yes Pete, turned it to prime, and checked one of drain plugs on one carb and fuel going to that carb. I still need to check the others.

Sometimes takes a while to start if the carbs have been off. Give it a few more turns. You got the vacuum pipe on as well ?
