Hi all,
The old girl seems to have developed a bit of a leak from the front of the crankcases. As the rest of the motor is oil tight, is there any reason why i cant open the cases and not disturb the top end?
I was thinking of opening it up just to reseal the joint, any other ideas?
Ta

Hi. I tho.k ur barking up the wrong tree. Shouldn't be that leaking. Sometimes the camchain tensioner leaks. Oil passes through the barrels when stationary and hot then when you ride of it can spread around the front

Hi FBJ, I wish it was that simple. The rest of the motor is totally tight. It started to weep a little while ago, then after a quite "spirited" run around it slowly got worse.
Was thinking of breaking open the cases asap so she was as tight as a choir boy for the jaunt down to France.
I have fitted an oil cooler and a crankcase breather to see if they might help in anyway but no luck
I cant think of another way around it.
Any suggestions are more than welcome!!

Check the o-rings of the front middle head bolts first. they tend to leak and then the oil comes out at the front and might make you think the cases are leaking.

If you replaced these with no joy, you can split the cases just from the bottom side, no problem.

Cheers Pedda, i will have a real close inspection a little further up from the suspect area. I thought i could split the cases leaving the block in place, good to have a second opinion and someone else to blame if I am wrong!!! :P
