I know i'm probably digging up an old thread
Were the gs engines painted silver from new or bare aluminium ?
The 2 I have here look to have been painted very badly and dont appear to have a good factory finish under the crap thats on top. I was going to get the whole engine vapour blasted but dont see the point if it should be painted again as a normal bead blast is half the price.
£140 for crank cases, barrels, head and cam cover. cleaned, stripped and vapourblast, does this sound abpout right ???

Talk to JohnR about acid dipping.

dipped is preferable imho..... COMPLETELY clean when you get em back with zero blast material left behind (obviously)
speak with johnr nicely as he has a place en route to work that'll do a stirling job

I think only the top crank cases , cylinder and head were painted silver Russ.
Vapour blasting doesnt leave any possible detritis in any of the oilways like bead blasting could!
I used good old elbow grease on my crank cases when i did mine!

Thats a clean looking engine Bobster. So which paint is best to use, other than PJ1, as I will be doing this in the next month.

I used CARPLAN VHT.....but it needs curing first ,and can get washed off with petrol and solvents, if youre not careful.
Doesnt go yellow though!

Bob.
You could have sprayed that towbar while you were at it, look at the state of it.
