My (cough) Impulse's front brakes have never been that good compared to the 550 kat ones. Thought the original ones that came with the bike were past their best so recently swapped em for some others that I picked up cheap(waits for post from John ). They were in a lot better looking condition than the old ones and all the pistons moved freely. Didnt make that much difference however, so I swapped the MC over as well.Not much improvement again. Cant seem to get full pressure on the lever after bleeding either.

Anyway....are there any other brakes from another model that will fit without any problems ?

The ones I have are fairly generic I think for the period.

You should give the pads the chance to match the grooves in the old disc before you judge.

Cable tie the brake lever back overnight, the air bubbles should go to the resovoir and disperse giving you better lever travel and stronger brakes.
The calipers are Suzuki deca opposed piston (dop) just means four piston, they're similar to slabbie/RG brakes of the time but look like mini versions on yours.


edit, they might be the same as RG250 ones, hard to tell from a pic.

Take your keys and your riding gear with you, that's your chance for another ridearound, accellerating and braking all the time till the neighbours say you're lunatic (this is the point for friendly coments for everybody else... ). That'll cure the brakes a bit after you got the rest of the air out.

The deca brakes are known for not being the best Pete. They're the same as my Gixxer400's (same bike basically as we know) and are pretty wooden. I'd say judge them after a good thrashing and see if they're any better. What pads you using?

Upgrade to the later nissin 4pots as fitted to most Suzooks of the 90's etc is the best option. However, I think I'm right in saying the nissins use 90mm spacing and the deca 65(?)mm so adaptor plates would be needed.

Cheers lads. Will have another look when I can(kids back). I am thinking that the disks might be glazed because they feel the same on both sets of calipers I have tried on the bike. Will have a look at the pads as well although I seem to remember they looked ok when i got em.

The bike was standing for 8-10 years so am wondering if the disks need a bit of a rub down or something. Saying that. Even with my limited mileage the pads should have cleaned them up eh ?
