For some reason I can't get the top collar back into the frame! I',ve had it in the freezer over night, don't want to add heat as the frame has been repainted....any suggestions?

Has the frame been painted where the collar goes in?

It's a good idea to grind the outer race on the outside to make it almost "fall" home into the headstock. Then take some locktite or similar and fix it, with the whole yoke assy tightened in place to make sure the bearing race is seated correctly.

This way you avoid the bearing race getting oval because of the facturywise mostly non-circular headstock.

There's a German bearing specialist called Emil Schwarz, who cures running gear problems on motorbikes by (not only) this method.

Don't do that grinding by hand though - it has to be done precisely.
