OK so i read the manual but of course i will ask some questions. I have a set of gauges but i don't have the adapters. Any ideas where i can get them? Any tips from anyone who has done them before would be much appreciated.

I'll state the obvious first:
This is the last bit of tuning you should do - check tappets, fit new plugs and air filter etc. before balancing carbs.
Use an external fuel supply (don't rely on what's in the carbs)
Block off the vacuum pipe for the fuel tap.
Use the idle screw to set the revs (I usually set them to about 2000rpm).
Don't worry about getting them perfect, every time you operate the throttle the linkages will 'give' a bit so this will always cause the readings to vary.
Don't over-tighten the lock nuts. They're a very fine thread and can strip easily.

Less obvious:
You need to keep the engine at normal running temperature.
Don't let it get too hot.
If it takes more than a minute or so to make an adjustment - turn the engine off and let it cool down for a few minutes. (unless you happen to have mahoosive cooling fan installed in your garage)

Make a small adjustment to one linkage and then blip the throttle to allow the assembly to settle.

I'm sure I'll remember more later.

Well the adapters arrived yesterday so if this rain lets up i will get outside and do it. I bought the bike 6 months ago from being stored for 3 years in a shed. She was running really rough.
Firstly:
I did all the valve clearances a few months ago, Fitted new plugs, oil & filter, has ram air filters and a DJ kit. Sent carbs off the NRP to be sorted. Once they returned i reset the slow running mixture which also helped.
I have an extra long fuel hose to run from the tank once i remove it. I also bought one of those proper locknut & screwdriver tools.
Ive read the manual and watched a few video's on balancing instructions.

Is there anything i missed?

Yeah, a couple of beers for when your finished and its running like a dream.
