ok, here goes. my 650 engine is currently in bits and at the advise of the builder whom I trust I have had the barrels rehoned and the head refaced. it has standard genuine pistons on a 62mm bore and again I have been advised to use genuine rings but at £216 for a full set its a bit more than I can afford. Pattern ones are available at a fifth of the price but without starting a war on here what is everyones opinion? have you all used genuine or have some of you used pattern and had no probs or have there been nightmares. I know shes worth it but I can see how I can manage to afford that on top of everything else. advise appreciated.

Shhhhussh!I wont tell anyone, if you fit the cheaper, pattern ones, nobody will ever know, unless you tell them. At a 5th of the price....Its a NO BRAINER.......
And I think they should be fine!

Why would it go tits up?
Pattern parts are ok to use! If you were racing it then use OEM parts.......but youre not!
There is 4 sets of std piston rings on ebayUK for £99............ Or there are 4 sets in the USA for £47 posted............Get em bought!
But it already looks like youve already made your mind up!
