Paint codes

Post by spondonchris » Sat Nov 08, 2014 9:46 pm

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if painters or stove enamellers would know how to make the Katana Paint colours exact to original. In other words, if I ask for my frame to be done in 13L Silver, are they going to look at me as if I am talking nonsense or would they be able to match it?
I assume lots of people on here have had standard paintjobs, so sorry for dumb question, but I haven't had to do this yet and want to get my frame done 13L Silver
Any help appreciated as always

My favourite question to answer...

Standox Mix 812 (Silver Dollar fine) is the perfect match in case your painter is helpless.

Thankyou Pedda, that is very helpful. Most people seem to be doing powder coating rather than painting now so will be looking around for a good stove enameller or painter over the next month or so which is how long it will take to strip the bike down

I used to get frames stove enamelled. Seems to have gone out of fashion. Nice finish.

The race bike is painted in Suzuki Silky Silver, it's a car colour and looks a perfect match to me, matched it off an original front mudguard. (it might not be perfect ? but I think it would be hard to tell the difference)

could be worth getting samples on a card if you can so you can compare.

i went to garstang autojumble on sunday. there was a guy selling old paint sprays, end of line, out of stock stuff, anyhow, he had the unipart wheel silver in rattle cans which is a bang on match for the silver frame paint on the 1100, i quite like the idea of a painted frame rather than just another powdercoated jobbie, so i spent a princely 10 quid on 4 500 ml rattle cans, this will go perfectly with the etch primer and silver galv basecoat i plan to use to do one of my other 1100 frames. all in all, including the stripping of the old powdercoat, i should be able to spray it ready for about 60 quid!

I was going to ask what off the shelf Car Colour would match the Suzuki Silver. The Choke knob which was part number 58481-49302-13L is now superceeded with part 58481-49302 (on Robinsons and what I received) which is just black plastic, so have to paint yourself now.

So is Suzuki Silky Silver the one to go for?
