650 engine question , but I suspect it relates to any GSX.

Ok finally got round to having a closer look at this German import 650.

Got it running last year but camchain rattled. On a 650?

When I checked it there seemed to be a tight spot............on a camchain? :?

Today changed the tensioner in a very vain hope that fate was smiling......alas...
Now After studying and marking the spot I realise the chain is infact at the correct tension..........until compression stroke is off then the chain goes very slack. This is with every cylinder ,
So imagine set at tbc. All fine 20 pins between 2 and 3 markers on camshafts, rotate crank nut with resistance then no resistance....and a good 5 mm slack in camchain , still 20 pins obviously...then 1/4 turn on crank nut and correct tension until no resistance etc etc etc.

The camshafts do not move ...as in loose or excessive wear, the bike has done 55.000kms (33000miles)which is genuine as I have the history.

Crank issue? :( Or Come give me the obvious cheap reason.......please.

Have you checked chain length between a given amount of pins every now and then? ...just to make sure the chain isn't lengthened unevenly.

Will have a look ,got to be worth a go. Cheers. Though why a camchain should have worn so is hard to comprehend. Never had to do a camchain on a Suzuki ever.
The works Bandit has just had a new tensioner at 80.000 miles. But the chain was fine.

im wondering if the tensioner blades are intact, cos theres no way the chain should be able to go slack if its being guided by the slipper blade at the front and the tensioner at the back.

My thoughts along those lines, but would the chain not be slack always not just off compression?
Either way the top end has to come off eh? That ain't gonna happen ....the reality is I 'me not up for another project. So looking for a running engine for a 650 just to get this bike Uk reg,d then I can looking it this issue .
