Front Wheel Bearings - Stupid Question

Here's my front wheel bearing:

This is a stupid question, but you should be able to turn the centre bit fairly easily (i.e. put your finger in it and turn it). The fact that I can't (though it will turn if I wrap some cloth round a bar and "wedge" it in the hole) isn't good news I'm thinking?!

Given I might have to replace, I always like using quality bearing - SKF, Nachi, Koyo but anyone got other quality bearing suggestions or suppliers? I can't get a match on the Nachi number on the bearing that seems to say 6302NSE.

Cheers

Rob

PS you can see the score mark (in the image) the speedo drive made when it failed - see other post http://www.katanaownersclub.co.uk/forum ... f=7&t=6817.

had a look on one of those wheels in the garage and mine says 6302 something or other...

6302 bearings ring a bell... they measure 15, 42, 13

Thanks again :-) I can now zoom in on mine and from what you have said the part number says 6302NSE (it wasn't too clear without the help), the size was handy as well as I searched Google and got the wrong size! Now I can get my bearing manufacturer of choice.

Can you easily turn the centre of the bearing by hand on your spare? The bearing all feel OK, it's just mine are fairly stiff. I could check by taking the wheel off another bike but can't be bothered at the moment!

Yes, you should be able to turn it smoothly with your finger...
but they are cheap so change them and forget it.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking really (Steve confimed the part number and size), though I might get lazy and let someone else do it as it is going in to have the steering lock changed anyway (lost key).
