Thought would ask here first. Got Alex's 1100 motor a few weeks back which looks to have a flowed head. Have very luckily scored an 1170 wiseco kit cheap last week, so question is what carbs are best for this motor set up?

Road or track use?

For track use you want top end power, so I'd go for 38 mm Mik flatties.

For road use I'd go for 36 mm B12 or Gixxer11 CV carbs.

Will just be for road use. The old 1170 race motor I have has 33mm smoothbores from when it was raced around 1987, but I assume things have moved on since then, so trying to find out what current thinking is. So reading your two posts it sounds like 36mm is the way forward. I assume using bandit or GSXR carbs will be the cheaper option?

Yes, and these will match the stock airbox, too.

...if you're going to have one...
