Diesel knowledge ?

My cars died :(

Anyone got knowledge of Renault Dci (common rail) engines?

Been running fine till this morning, just started warming up, pulled away from lights & no power & engine dies. Just as I was joining a dual carriageway, stopped both lanes

Not the best place to breakdown. At least the Kat fired up & runs a treat in this damp cold weather. What was ever wrong with engine & carbs with no ECU?

Any ideas?

Steve

Does it start now or not even starting. I would probably start with the fuel pump. Even if starting, the fuel pump might not be giving enough pressure. On the VStrom you can hear it whineing when turning on the ignition (before starting). Is that the same on the car? If so can you hear it?

Quick Google had this:

Dont crack any injectors like you would in the old days.
does it have a electric lift pump feeding fuel to the high pressure pump?
Can you borrow a gadjet to plug in to fault find?

Does it turn over without firing? When was the cam belt done........the symptoms of a French engine losing cam belt is the same as fuel pump failing , but a gain hong souch on restart.!

Cam belt is still intact, but does need doing, reading the Renault forums it does look like the low pressure electric fuel pump, I now have found said pump & after hitting it now seems to be running & priming the rest of the fuel system, need to clean the EGR valve & put this back in & attempt to fire up. If this proves to be the issue then £100 replacement, neither of the kids seem keen using their small hands attempting to remove said pump, don't know why?

I thought lying under the sump in the rain, hands wedged in gunk would be a great 16th Birthday present, but Chloe's not so keen.

you can just blank off the egr, i did it on my fiesta and it actually ran better. you can buy blanking plates off ebay for most modern diesel engines, the egr is fitted only to placate the men in suits in brussels, and they will actually run better with them blanked off.
